Two additions to the Asterix Grand Collection

The Grand Collection

Home-cinema fans "in the know" have a choice: either to discover their favourite films in DVD format or to sample the experience in high definition with Blu-Ray. Here, in the indomitable Gauls' virtual village, there's still a few of us who cling to the prehistoric era of VHS cassettes... suffice to say, they are old hat these days…

On the other hand, when it comes to the greatest classic in the comic book world, the clued-up comic book fans that we are have no need to hesitate: Asterix truly deserves his Grand Collection!

The equivalent of high definition for comic books, the Asterix Grand Collection lets you assemble all the adventures of the winged-helmet Gaul in large format edition, featuring restored inking, lettering and colours. There really isn't any better way of admiring the wealth of detail and wonderful artistry of Albert Uderzo's drawings.

And just recently, two new albums have been added to this collection: Asterix and the Great Divide, where love and politics collide in an epic, hilarious melodrama, plus Asterix and the Black Gold, which shows that even if the Gauls have any petra oleum (petrol), they're never short of ideas for how to have some fun! Two albums for two unforgettable stars: the ghastly Codfix in Asterix and the Great Divide, and the spy Dubbelosix, a caricature in homage to Sean Connery, in Asterix and the Black Gold.

Special mini-site for the Asterix Grand Collection

The Grand Collection

With the publication of more than a dozen albums in little over a year, the Asterix Grand Collection has become a permanent feature on shelves of avid readers of the most famous of all Gauls.
It was high time that the official Asterix.com site offered a couple of pages devoted to this collection, which lets the best of Gaulish history make the most of XXIst century printing and publication techniques.
So here is the special Asterix Grand Collection mini-site, where you will discover, in word and image, the different steps involved in restoring the Asterix albums (new inking, new lettering, new colours, etc.). You can also compare the plates before and after restoration, cast an expert collector’s eye on the brand new eight-page contained within each album, and discover all the titles which have already been published. Enjoy!

Asterix Grand Collection and the Goths

The Grand Collection

A few weeks after their appearance in Gaul, Asterix and the Goths and Asterix and Obelix All at Sea are now arriving in German-speaking countries in the Grand Collection format that is the envy of the whole world.
You have to think that our German cousins, already big fans of the Asterix stories for more than 40 years, do not hold too much against us for the terrible “Asterixian Wars” started by our heroes when passing through the country of the Goths.
In any case, these two magnificent new albums are naturally taking their place in Bravura’s Library and the Translation Exchange.

The Grand Collection: 2nd wave

The Grand Collection

You were bluffed and delighted by the first 4 albums, of which the first 2 offered an original cover drawn by the author. We therefore intend to stick to our publication calendar which, as you will have gathered, is planned by working from both ends of the collection. The next up are albums number 3 and 30!
The improved colouring and reading comfort are blatant in the album Asterix and Obelix All at Sea. And the album Asterix and the Goths is literally transfigured. From a technical viewpoint it was perhaps the album where the colouring and inking work were the least masterful. It can now compete with the best. The 2 albums (along with the first 4 to be published) make for perfect reading on a Sunday morning, snug under the quilt with your hot chocolate and croissants - but mind the crumbs! There were quite a few trips between our offices and the colouring studios this time given the colouring problems in the original Goths album and we insisted on exceptional results. But it was worth it, you will not be disappointed by the January vintage! By Doubleclix!

Asterix reaches the supreme dimension

The Grand Collection

Suprême Dimension, a French monthly publication famous among comic book fans, unrolls the red carpet for Asterix.
The front page, a superb and audacious announcement that Asterix is taking on new colours.
Inside, six fascinating pages feature interviews from the craftsmen working on the “Refoundation”, the biggest comic book project ever, the results of which can be admired in the very latest albums of the sublime Asterix Grand Collection.
Fully revamped with new colouring, new ink, new lettering and in a larger format, the project of the Grand Collection is described in detail in this kind of “making of” which teaches us a lot about how the Asterix albums were conceived.
